  1. 26/06/1988 – Tulla 3-8 Newmarket 3-4 in Kilkishen
    “Tulla Will Have to Improve”
Tulla beat Newmarket in this championship tie a kilkishen but unless there is a major improvement they cannot have and great hopes of going much further in the competition. The winners took an early lead but a goal from long range by Newmarket’s best player, Seanie McMahon gave Newmarket the upper hand. Tulla replied and two goals from ml McNamara helped them to a lead at the break on the score of 2-3 to 2-1. Ono the changeover ten minutes went by before there was a score which was a Donal Vaughan point. After Richard McMahon had replied for the losers Mike Bolton had the winner’s third goal. The Tulla men had to withstand a lot of pressure in the closing minutes before emerging victorious.
Best for the winners were Michael O’Hara who had a splendid game, Timmy Hunt, who showed a great improvement in the second half, Michael McNamara, Michael Bolton and Donal Vaughan, wile sub, Pat Meehan also did well.”
The Tulla team lined out as follows:
    Ed Murphy
Michael Dinan Jim Power MA Moloney
Mattie Corry Timmy hunt Michael O’Hara
    TJ Foley Fintan Leamy
Pat McInerney Donal Vaughan (0-5) Ml McNamara (2-1)
Gerry Lynch Michael Bolton (1-2) Danny Minogue
Subs: Sean McInerney for Lynch, Pat Meehan for Minogue.

  2. 06/08/1988 – Tulla 1-4 Ruan 1-6 in Cusack Park – Playoff Replay
“Ruan advance in Low standard game,” Seamus Hayes
Ruan secured the remaining spot in the Clare senior hurling championship ¼ finals when they overcame Tulla at the second attempt at Cusack Park on Saturday evening. While the Ruan men will be happy to remain in contention they cannot have much more to be pleased about.
IN this conest defences dominated as can be seen from the low scoreline and indeed it is air to say that Ruan’s centre back, Cyril Lyons, kept his side in the game when it looked like Tulla might take control. The small attendance had to wait nine minutes for the opening score which was a TUlla point from a free by Donal Vaughan whose attempt for a goal from a 20 metre free in the opening minutes was saved. Tulla had to wait sixteen minutes for their next score which again came from a Vaughan free. In the meantime, Ruan had pointed twice per Tomas Kelly and Eddie Casey.
Ruan went back in from four minutes form the break with a point from PJ Lyons from an almost impossible angle but Vaughan again was on target with a free to leave matters level for the third time. A minute from the break Dermot Mulqueen had Ruan’s only goal when he first timed the ball t the net from close range and this gave thema one-goal lead when the score was 1-3 to 0-3.
Midway through the first half Tulla had introduced Mike Bolton, somewhat surprisingly left out of the starting line up ad for the second half they sent in Fergal Culloo, another who had been dropped after the drawn tie. Culloo immediately made his presence felt and scored a point within a minute. While he continued to give his side the upper-hand at midfield the next twelve minutes were scoreless before Thomas Kelly pointed for the winners.
At the turn of the final quarter Tulla were right back in contention when substitute Bolton hand-passed to the net. It’s worth noting that Tulla’s only goal came when Ruan captain John Moroney was caught out of possession. Tulla weren’t to score again, however, and Ruan pointed twice in the last five minutes t seal their place in the last eight. The lead point came five minutes form the end when Donal HAssett eleted to tap the ball over the bar after Ruan were awarded a penalty. They competed the scoring in the final minute when substitute Michael Daffy, pointed from a free.
Cyril Lyons despite being off target from some long distance frees was his sides best player, getting great support fomr keeper Kevin McDonnel, who ahd his best game to date, John Moroney, Martin Moroney and Tomas Kelly, but there will have to be a big improvement in their forward division. For TUlla, whose forwards also disappointed, Jim Power had a fine game at full back, while Ed Crowe, Timmy Hunt, Mattie Corry, Ferga Culloo and Donal Vaughan did best. The Tulla Team lined out as follows:
    John Hunt
Michael Dinan Jim Power Ed Crowe
Mattie Corry Timmy Hunt Ml O’Hara
    Gerry Lynch Fintan Leamy
Ray McInerney Donal Vaughan (0-3) TJ Foley
MA Moloney Denis Meehan Ml McNamara

Subs: Michael Bolton (1-0) for McInerney, Fergal Culloo (0-1) for Lynch, Danny Minogue for Meehan.
    Ref: Johnny Hayes.
