  2. Clare Champion Friday 14th July 1989
In the Senior Championship SMB (2-15) defeated Tulla (1-7) in Newmarket. SMB minus a few regulars had no problem overcoming a weak Tulla challenge. The Bridge were always in control despite being reduced to 14 men when Noel Casey was sent of 3 minutes into the second half. After being book for a tackle he said something to referee Michael Quinn and was dismissed. The Bridge were without John Chaplin, Noel O’Gorman and John Lynch. They took the lead after half a minute when Mike Casey scored a goal after the Tulla defence presumed the ball was going wide. They were 1-5 to no score after 15 minutes with scores coming from Casey, Leo Quinlan, Gerry McInerney, Sean Flynn and Seamus O’Shea. At half time they were 2-10 to 0-3 ahead. David Fitzgerald replaced Brendan Flynn at 12 minutes before the break due to injury. Fintan Leamy did well for Tulla at midfield while Mike Dinan and Timmy Hunt tried hard. The Tulla team lined out as follows:
    John Hunt
Mike Dinan TJ Foley Edmund Crowe
Ray McInerney Timmy Hunt(0-1) Johnny Burns
    Pat McInerney Fintan Leamy (0-3)
MA Moloney (0-1)Donal Vaughan (0-1)Paul Conheady
Mike Bolton Mattie Corry Jim McInerney (0-1)
Subs: Jim Power for Burns, Gerry Lynch for Bolton, Ml Mcnamara for Conheady.
